Lighting the Way

Shine a Light on Food Security
Holiday Campaign

Why Food Security Matters
From the 2025 Vital Signs report: Nearly one in five households in Greater Victoria struggle to put food on the table – a rate that has nearly doubled since 2019.

Rising living costs, inflation, and fixed incomes are pushing more seniors, youth, and families into food insecurity.

Across Beacon programs, staff are seeing this rise firsthand, and food has become an essential part of supporting stability, well-being, and connection.

Childcare Meals

Food is a foundation for learning, emotional regulation, and community.

  • 1,200+ children and youth participated in Beacon childcare and youth programs last year.
  • Healthy snacks ensure children can learn and thrive, and shared meals foster belonging and
    social connection.
Beacon Mobile Meals

Food is a critical need for vulnerable seniors in the Greater Victoria region.

  • Through our Beacon Mobile Meals (formerly More Than Meals) 12,831 meals were delivered last year through social and delivery meal programs.
  • Every delivery includes a wellness check, helping identify risks such as isolation, declining health, or mobility challenges.
Nourishing Hope

Nourishment plays a vital role in helping youth find stability, stay engaged, and build independence.

  • Beacon supported 250+ youth through homelessness prevention programs last year.
  • Food is often the first point of connection that brings youth in the door, offering safety and consistency.
