Beacon Community Services officially opened Little Tides Early Learning Centre this week, celebrating the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by elected officials, community partners, supporters, and staff.
The opening marks an important milestone for Westshore families, adding new licensed childcare spaces in one of the region’s fastest-growing communities.
Guests gathered at the new centre in Langford to celebrate the completion of a project made possible through strong community partnerships and a shared commitment to supporting children and families.
During the ceremony, speakers reflected on the importance of investing in quality childcare and early learning opportunities. In his remarks, Beacon Board Chair Rob McMurtry spoke about the lasting impact that early experiences have on children and communities.
“When we invest in children, we invest in the future of our communities. The experiences, relationships, and opportunities children receive in their earliest years help shape who they become, and centres like Little Tides provide a strong foundation for that journey.”
Mayor Scott Goodmanson highlighted the importance of increasing access to childcare within the community, noting that spaces located close to where families live and work help reduce transportation barriers while supporting a growing population. He also spoke about the value of partnerships in creating the community services that families rely on.
That spirit of collaboration is reflected in Little Tides itself. Located in a building owned by Pacifica Housing, the centre represents a partnership focused on strengthening communities and expanding access to services that support local families.
Little Tides provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where children can explore, connect, and grow through a nature-inspired, play-based approach to learning. Guided by experienced educators, the centre is designed to foster curiosity, independence, and meaningful connections during the early years of development.
“We are incredibly proud to see Little Tides officially open its doors,” said Donna Douglas, Associate Director of Childcare Services at Beacon Community Services. “This centre was created with children and families at the heart of every decision, and we’re excited to welcome families into this beautiful new space.”
