Everybody should have a warm, safe place to sleep. Beacon works with a variety of partners to try and make that possible.

Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP)

Beacon Community Services’ Outreach Services staff work to connect individuals and families with stable accommodation and appropriate services. We focus on those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, assessing their needs and assisting them to meet their personal goals.  Our HPP mandate is to provide these services to at-risk youth and people leaving corrections facilities.

For information about how we can help, please contact Jenn Mortimer, Manager of Youth Shelter and Homelessness Programs;  250-884-3701; jmortimer@beaconcs.ca

Out of the Rain Youth Shelter, Victoria

Beacon leads and coordinates a coalition of community agencies, faith-based groups, and others to reduce risk for homeless youth by providing meals and a safe, warm space to sleep at the seasonal Out of the Rain Youth Shelter every night from Oct 15-April 15.

To help maximize community resources, the shelter rotates amongst various host sites in the community.  At the shelter,  youth can connect with Beacon’s friendly, caring, non-judgmental staff for support and information about various community resources. Hygiene supplies, warm socks, and other necessities are often available. And youth enjoy a hot meal prepared by kind, caring volunteers and delivered to the shelter site.

Please visit the Out of the Rain shelter’s website for the schedule (the shelter runs Oct 15-April 15), or to see how you can support Out of the Rain’s important work.
