Everybody should have a warm, safe place to sleep. Beacon works with a variety of partners to try and make that possible.
Beacon Community Services’ Outreach Services staff work to connect individuals and families with stable accommodation and appropriate services. We focus on those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, assessing their needs and assisting them to meet their personal goals. Our HPP mandate is to provide these services to at-risk youth and people leaving corrections facilities.
For information about how we can help, please contact Jenn Mortimer, Manager of Youth Shelter and Homelessness Programs; 250 884-3701; jmortimer@beaconcs.ca
To help protect the health of some of our community’s most vulnerable youth, Out of the Rain is also providing local street youth with additional meal services and laundry for the time being.
Effective October 15, sleeping space also re-opened for the season. Youth aged 15-25 are encouraged to come by 1450 Elford Street; we’re open 7 days a week, from 9 pm until morning.
Hygiene supplies, warm socks and friendly, caring, non-judgmental staff are also on hand.
We will also launder your clothes, to help you stay clean during the covid-19 pandemic. Drop your laundry off and we’ll clean and dry it for you to pick up a later time.
Please visit the Out of the Rain shelter’s website to find out more about this seasonal shelter (which runs Oct 15-April 15) (or to see how you can support Out of the Rain’s important work).
