At the Peninsula Early Years Centre, Beacon Community Services offers a welcoming, nurturing space for families and caregivers with children ages 6 and under. Families will find comfort and encouragement, as well as important resources and supports that help build a strong foundation for young children – so they get the strongest start possible in life.

Our dedicated team of early years professionals supports families with:

  • Child development information and assessment tools
  • Assistance with connecting to health services and early intervention support
  • Parent support and connections
  • Assistance to get child care, housing & other resources
  • Emergency food and other practical supports
  • Assistance through Outreach/Resource Workers

Through our partnerships with the Province of BC, School District 63, the Island Health Authority, and many others, Beacon’s early years team offers a range of programs and services throughout the Saanich Peninsula.

  • Parent-Child Mother Goose Program®

    A free, fun program of favourite rhymes, music and stories that help to develop language skills for children (2 months – 3 yrs). In partnership with School District 63, this early literacy program provides social connection and support for parents and caregivers. Offered as registered 10 week sessions, with age appropriate groups and snacks.

  • Peninsula Babies

    Are you expecting? Or parenting an infant up to 9 months old? Then Peninsula Babies is for you! This Beacon program supports parents throughout pregnancy to help them with their goal of delivering healthy babies. And it provides a welcoming place for parents and infants to connect.

    Island Health Authority public health nurses offer information and support, as does our program facilitator and various guest speakers (on topics such as prenatal education, new-born care, nutrition, health, and stages of child development).

  • You & Your Baby

    A free drop-in group for new parents and their babies with a chance to discuss specific topics surrounding the health and well-being of a new family. The program gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents and caregivers in a warm and inviting space, with a variety of guest speakers presenting from the community.

    The group meets at Beacon’s Peninsula Early Years Centre (1649 Mt. Newton X Rd., Saanichton).

  • Peninsula Early Years Centre Family Drop-in

    Our Friday Families and Friends Playtime group welcomes parents and caregivers and children (infants to 6 years).

    Come visit us for coffee, the chance to connect with other families, and time for your child to play and do activities.

    Our facilitators are available to assist with questions about ages and stages of development, or needs specific to your early years family.

  • Peninsula Toddler Time

    Drop in and enjoy weekly play time with your little one and meet other families. This program also offers information, discussion, and support during this very active stage of life and learning.

  • Sidney StrongStart Centre

    In partnership with School District 63, and located at Sidney Elementary, families/caregivers can drop in to explore play with their children. StrongStart supports the development of young children, consistent with the goals of the BC Early Learning Framework.

    Beacon is pleased to be facilitating one-hour StrongStart sessions at Sidney Elementary five mornings a week!

    Check out our new online directory of services and supports for Peninsula early years families, and the Greater Victoria region. In partnership with the Victoria and Sooke/Westshore Early Years Centres, we have created a user friendly website for finding local community resources. It also has a Community Calendar for ongoing free or low-cost programs to drop-in to across the region.
