We were thrilled to receive a Barrier Buster grant for over $25,000 from the Rick Hansen Foundation this Saturday at Access Awareness Day to help make SHOAL more accessible! SHOAL is committed to making the community centre inclusive for everyone. This generous grant will help us help those with mobility, vision, hearing and mental health challenges move beyond these barriers. We are so grateful, a big THANK YOU from us all!
The Jeannette Hughes award is given on Access Awareness Day to a business or organization in appreciation of the work they do in decreasing barriers and promoting accessibility and inclusion in Sidney. This year, Star Cinema was the recipient of the award. Owner Sandy Oliver has been committed to accessibility and inclusion as long as she has owned the Cinema offering open captions on screen if available, keeping things affordable and creating space for walkers and wheelchairs. Sandy could not be present at the fair so the award was presented to Anna Hudson, a Star Cinema Volunteer. Congratulations to Star Cinema for this accomplishment!
