Home Support services to transition to Island Health this fall

On March 13, it was announced that the delivery of publicly funded home support services will transition to the Island Health Authority effective October 31, 2019. Beacon home support staff will also be offered opportunities to join Island Health’s team.

Our Home Support program is one of the ways we help older adults and people with disabilities live at home for as long as possible. Through Home Support, we also often provide respite support for family caregivers.

We’re dedicated to providing quality, compassionate care for you and your family. And as part of our commitment to ongoing, continuous quality improvement, we’ve established a client and family advisory committee — a group of clients and family and community members who volunteer to share their advice and ideas to help us continue building on our commitment to quality care and excellent service.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority has selected our not-for-profit organization to be its sole provider of public Home Support services for southern Vancouver Island and the outer Gulf Islands.

To receive this public health service, which subsidizes client fees, you must be assessed by an Island Health Case Manager.

Island Health will determine what services you’re eligible for and how much you’re able to pay. The Health Authority will also direct Beacon Community Services what services we can deliver as part of your personalized service plan. For an assessment, please contact Island Health’s Home and Community Care Program at 250-388-2273; Toll-free: 1-888-533-2273.

To arrange for private-pay care, please contact us directly at 250-658-6407. Private-pay clients may independently arrange for services such as housekeeping, meal preparation and social interaction, without an Island Health assessment.

Either way, we look forward to meeting you and making your days a bit easier!

With support from a Licensed Practical Nurse, our well-trained, compassionate care aides (community health workers) deliver compassionate, quality care to those who are:

  • Needing end-of-life care

Services may include:

  • Bathing, dressing, grooming and assistance with other daily activities
  • Assisting with the administration of medications
  • Wound care
  • Oxygen, ventilator, catheter/ostomy care
  • Chronic disease management and end of life (palliative) care
  • Light meal preparation  or laundry service
